The role of the steering group is to determine which competence criteria should be evaluated, decide on entry requirements, select evaluators, and analyse potential obstacles for those wishing to complete a formal course of study and obtain a professional licence or other type of recognition following the validation of prior learning. It is important to ensure that the results have value both for the individual and for society as a whole. The profile of the steering group needs to be considered and it is recommended that in addition to the project manager (counsellor) it should be made up of representatives from both the labour market and the education system.
